CCSK: Preparing

Wow, its been a really long time since I wrote anything on here. Since the last time I wrote anything a lot has actually changed. I recently passed my Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ900) course and my Professional Scrum Master I course (not that I intend to pursue a career being a Scrum Master). I also officially finished my undergraduate degree yesterday (hurray!). A big step forward is that I am actually going to be beginning my M.S. in IT Management from Western Governors University in the coming months. The Coronavirus pandemic really put a damper on a lot of the plans and options I had post-graduation. However, during all this time at home, I found the time to pursue the formerly mentioned certifications and am actually currently preparing for my third one!

I plan to pursue a career in cloud computing. It’s hard to say at this point, exactly what trajectory my career is pointing in, however cloud computing is definitely the general direction I want to point my career. Within the CC realm, there is soooo much to learn and so many different avenues one can take. I figured it’s a wise idea to take the CCSK (Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge) exam since having expertise in security is always a valued trait amongst employers. I’m not going to lie, this exam is one of the more nitty gritty types and a lot of the material focuses on implementing best practices along with adhering to different compliances and regulations. From what I know and have read, the CCSK is essentially a lower version of ISC2’s CCSP (Precursor to CISSP). The CCSK is not super technical in nature, however it still requires a good degree of technical knowledge that many risk management professionals seem to not even have. The CCSK is no doubt a big boost especially for people looking to go into architecture roles.

The exam itself is divided up into 14 domains. This is based on the security guidance that’s provided by the Cloud Security Alliance (Organization that issues CCSK). It’s available for free to download and I’m finding it very useful. Nevertheless, I do plan on taking the exam in about 3 weeks after hopefully learning all the material.
