As I mentioned in my last post, the job market is really tough for new graduates and there aren’t many opportunities out there. I will admit that during this whole chaotic mess, I’ve learned to manage my time very well. I’ve invested a lot of effort and time into honing my skills by way of studying for certifications as well as reading articles and listening to podcasts regarding career progression and marketability.
The rule is simple. You have to be marketable in order to get hired anywhere. In fact, you have to be marketable even when your running your own shop. Reputable and competent professionals are groomed through credential training and professional experience. Of course, that’s the honest way to progress. A lot of people will say that it’s a good idea to get an MBA or a Master’s degree to move up in an sincere fashion. They’re definitely not wrong in my opinion. However, another resume and career booster is professional certifications. And no, I’m not talking about the CISSP or the SANS GIAC. I’m talking about professional certifications that are offered by institutions, usually virtually. While they may not be at the calibre of a full-fledged Master’s or Ph.D, they certainly do possess value. Interestingly, many Ivy League schools offer economical professional certifications in subjects ranging from technology management to healthcare sciences. They’re usually specifically designed for professionals who are already in the field who are looking to sharpen their knowledge.
Ever since learning about them, I’ve been heavily researching some institutions in hopes of finding an economical and useful certification. Here’s to hoping I find one that’s a good fit!
